Sub-fs electron pulses for ultrafast electron diffraction
We present a new concept for an electron gun generating subrelativistic electron pulses with a duration down to the attosecond range. It is based on a cylindrical RF cavity (a so-called pill-box cavity) oscillating in its TM010 eigenmode with a photocathode triggered by a fs-laser pulse. Injecting electrons at an appropriate phase of the RF cycle compensates for their initial velocities and tim...
متن کاملSub-100-fs Yb:CALGO nonlinear regenerative amplifier.
We report on the first diode-pumped Yb:CaGdAlO4 regenerative amplifier in the sub-100-fs regime. It generates pulses at a central wavelength of 1047 nm with up to 24 μJ energy (after compression) at a repetition rate of 50 kHz. The measured pulse duration is 97 fs, with a spectral bandwidth of 19 nm. We describe in detail how nonlinear effects are optimally used to compensate gain narrowing in ...
متن کاملUltracold Electron Source for Ultrafast Electron Diffraction
Single-shot ultrafast electron diffraction (UED) was introduced as a viable way to measure ultrafast processes, such as structural transitions in materials. For UED, the dynamics in a sample are induced by a femtosecond laser pulse and ultrashort electron bunches are used to probe the ultrafast processes in the sample. The ultracold charged particle cloud (UCPC) source researched in this work i...
